Age-Friendly AI Conversations in Cork: Highlights from the Senior Times 50 Plus Show

We had two fantastic days in Cork! On September 8th and 9th, our team met many engaged visitors at our dedicated project stand at the 50 Plus Show at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa.

Visitors were particularly captivated by our interactive AI demonstrations:

  • The Spirit of Radio – a vintage radio with an AI surprise
  • Art or AI? – an interactive art exhibition
  • SnapBack – smart glasses using AI to estimate cognitive decline from speech

We brought our AI Opinion Postcard Campaign with us to offer the opportunity for visitors and workshop participants to take part and share their thoughts and opinions on AI with our team.

‘I hate to be behind on everything. Everyone seems scared of it. I want to be informed and not be one of the scared ones.’ – visitor at the Cork 50 Plus Show 2026.

Highlights from the September 8th training workshop

Dr Damon Berry and Dr Aitor Velasco led an inspiring and interactive Age-Friendly AI training workshop: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI), the training material for which was co-developed with and for older adults following a year of dialogue about AI with older adults across the country.

Highlights from the training workshop for the Retired Teachers Committee in Cork (9 September)

On the second day of the 50 Plus Show, we hosted a dedicated training workshop for members of the Retired Teachers Association in Cork. Laura Grehan and Paula Kelly delivered a fantastic session, explaining what AI is, where it is already implemented in daily life and what to look out for when using it. The session sparked animated discussions on the benefits of AI in healthcare and the pitfalls of overreliance on the technology.
