Age Friendly Louth kicked off its 2025 programme of events by hosting an “AI for Beginners” workshop, designed to introduce older residents to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence. The session, held at Louth County Council’s Civic Offices in Drogheda, covered essential AI concepts, illustrating how AI is integrated into daily life through smartphones and social media. Participants learned about the potential benefits and challenges associated with AI, and gained insights into current AI research projects presented by experts from TU Dublin and the ADAPT Centre.
The event featured a presentation by Paula Kelly from TU Dublin’s School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Dr Emma Clarke from the ADAPT Centre at Dublin City University. They were accompanied by Peterson Jean (TU Dublin) and Cliona Sheridan (ADAPT, DCU) who showcased interactive AI demonstrations including the ‘AI Mask’ and ‘Art or AI?’.
Driven by the Louth Older People’s Council’s recognition of the growing importance of AI literacy, this introductory workshop is intended to be the first in a series of AI training sessions. The aim is to empower older individuals in Co. Louth to confidently navigate and understand the increasing presence of AI in their lives.
