Age-Friendly AI officially launched the Age-Friendly AI Training Programme in Cavan on Monday, April 13.
This training has been co-developed with and for older adults, following a year-long conversation across Ireland and will roll out nationwide throughout public libraries in 2026.
The launch in Cavan brought together 35 participants to explore Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on daily life. The session kicked off with an inspiring opening speech by Brendan Owens from Research Ireland.
During the session, participants were introduced to the key concepts of AI, including where it can be found in daily life and what to consider when using it. We heard about how AI can help with daily tasks and had meaningful conversations about the use of the technology, particularly in relation to personal information. The event encouraged open discussion, with attendees sharing their thoughts, questions, and experiences in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Paula Butler from the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) closed the session by highlighting the importance of AI literacy in an increasingly digital world.
After the workshop, participants also had the opportunity to engage with interactive AI exhibitions, such as “Spirit of Radio”, “Art or AI?” and “AI Lamp”.
Speaking about the launch, Minister of State with responsibility for trade promotion, artificial intelligence and digital transformation, Niamh Smyth TD said:
“As technology accelerates, we must ensure our progress is measured not just by the speed of innovation, but by its inclusivity. No citizen should be left behind in the wake of advancement. That is why the work being done through ADAPT’s Age-Friendly AI programme is so vital, it bridges the generational divide, ensuring that the rewards of AI are accessible, equitable, and empowering for everyone, regardless of age. I was delighted to work alongside the team at ADAPT to arrange for the Launch of Phase 2 of the Age-Friendly AI project held in Johnston Library, Cavan, and wish the project continued success.”
