How Can Older Adults in Ireland Have Their Say on Artificial Intelligence?

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) increasingly becomes part of everyday life, an important question arises: who is deciding how it works?

Our national initiative called Age-Friendly AI is working to ensure that older adults in Ireland have a direct say. Led by Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) and the ADAPT Centre, and supported by age-focused organisations across Ireland, the project is making sure that your lived experiences directly shape how AI is developed.

This September 8, 2026, marks the 60th anniversary of UNESCO’s International Literacy Day, themed “Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity.” Over the last six decades, literacy has meant reading, writing, and basic counting. Today, in our connected world, literacy also includes having the confidence and opportunity to discuss how AI and other digital tools affect our lives.

To mark this global milestone, Age-Friendly AI is continuing to gather opinions about AI from every corner of Ireland and we really want to hear from communities across the country, to share hopes, ideas and concerns about AI.

How to Share Your Thoughts Online

Participating takes only a few minutes from any smartphone, tablet or a computer.

You can visit the dedicated online portal here to answer three short questions:

  1. What are your hopes for AI?
  2. What are your biggest concerns about AI?
  3. What ideas do you have to make AI more age-friendly?

All submissions are completely anonymous and will be used to help guide developers, researchers and policymakers toward creating ethical, age-friendly technology.

Don’t let tech decisions be made without your input. Visit agefriendlyai.ie/share-your-thoughts today and help shape Ireland’s digital future.

About Age-Friendly AI

The Age-Friendly AI project is a national AI Literacy project led by TU Dublin and the ADAPT Centre at DCU. The two-year initiative aims to enhance AI literacy among older adults, fostering inclusivity and ensuring their voices shape the future of artificial intelligence (AI). The project provides a platform for older people to share their experiences and concerns to ensure their voices help shape how AI is developed and used in the future.
