The project team were delighted to have the opportunity to return to Mayfair Library in Kilkenny on June 11th to  host an Age-Friendly AI training workshop ‘Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The Kilkenny workshop brought together people from the community who explored Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it influences everyday life. We had many engaging conversations with participants discussing their opinions and thoughts on AI technologies.

The session kick-started with a warm welcome from Michael Core and a brilliant presentation from Damon Berry on what Artificial Intelligence is and where it can be found in daily life. We also discussed what to look out for when using AI, as well as its benefits and risks.

Particularly notable was the interest among participants in gaining hands-on experience with chatbots, such as ChatGPT or Gemini. Upon request, the team held an impromptu GenAI session after the workshop where we explored AI bias and its accuracy in practice.

Following the workshop, participants had the chance to engage with our interactive AI exhibits & demonstrations:

• “The Spirit of Radio” – a vintage radio design with an AI twist.
• “Art or AI?”- an art exhibition challenging participants to spot AI-generated images.
• AI Lamp – a voice-controlled lamp.

About the Age-Friendly AI Training Programme

Age-Friendly AI is Ireland’s national AI literacy initiative for older adults, funded by Research Ireland and coordinated by the ADAPT Centre and TU Dublin. Based on a series of year-long conversations across Ireland exploring the hopes, concerns and ideas of older adults on Artificial Intelligence (AI), the team is now rolling out a tailored AI Literacy training programme nationwide.
