Shaping the Future of Age-Friendly AI: Highlights from the workshop with Men’s Sheds in Slane

The Age-Friendly AI initiative recently visited the Men’s Shed in Slane, Meath, to host a successful Citizens’ Think-In. This interactive discussion event provided a welcoming space for local members to share their viewpoints on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its growing role in an individual’s life and society as a whole. Different local Men’ s Sheds attended the event, including Men’s Sheds from Slane, Ratoath, Athboy, Navan, Moynalty, Trim, Drumconrath, and Dunshaughlin, to talk about the role of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in daily life.

Meaningful conversations at the discussion tables

The morning kicked off over tea and coffee at 10.30 am with a relaxed atmosphere to dive into the topic of AI. The event started with a presentation from Paula Kelly, the Project Lead, who provided information on the topic. As part of the ADAPT Centre’s #DiscussAI National Conversation on Artificial Intelligence we split into small groups and discussed real-life impact where we gained insights into the impact of AI on daily life, allowing participants to share their experiences and discuss the benefits and risks of using AI technology. Afterwards, participants could try out AI technology first-hand.

Gerry, one of the participants at the workshop in Slane, mentioned: “I didn’t realise I used AI as much. It does make a difference.”

What’s next?

Based on the insights we have gathered and perspectives we have heard in the first phase of the project, Age-Friendly AI is preparing for rolling out an Age-Friendly AI Training that will be delivered through public libraries across Ireland.
